About Us
Freedom Dogs, Inc. was founded in 2011 by Colleen Crummy and Rebecca Stowers. After years of working with shelter dogs and training programs for those dogs, Colleen and Rebecca wanted to expand upon these programs and give back to the men and women who have fought so hard and given so much for our freedom.
Millions of dogs are euthanized each year, and Freedom Dogs, Inc. strongly beliieves that many of these dogs just need a chance and some training to reach their full potential.
Freedom Dogs, Inc. rescues dogs from local shelters. Many of these dogs are very close to the end of their life in that shelter. The dogs are then entered into one of the 10 week basic obedience classes that is run by Freedom Dogs, Inc.
After 10 weeks of training, the dogs are evaluated for service or therapy work potential. It takes a very specific personality and a very strong work ethic to become a service dog or therapy dog. A select few will posess these traits and will continue their training. After further training and testing through the AKC Canine Good Citizen program, they will be given to a disabled veteran at no charge to him or his family.
Many of our dogs will be best suited to life as a beloved companion animal for a loving family. These dogs will be adopted out to individuals and families. The adoption fee from the companion dogs will be put directly back into our programs so that we can train more CGC certified dogs and continue to provide them at no charge to disabled veterans.
